Social media is on fire today and it is because of one prevalent virus in the society – rape. The victim who has gotten people talking on their timelines is Jennifer, an 18-year-old girl that was gang-raped by five men weeks back in Narayi, Kaduna.
People on Twitter have made the issue the number one trending topic this morning with the hashtag #JusticeForJennifer. Jennifer’s rapists haven’t been charged to court and from the look of things, her family reportedly plans to accept a settlement.
The first thing that has enraged people about this is that
that there is probably no amount that can be used to pay for this damage. According to a Twitter user, @iamleoralph, a chicken feed of N30,000 is to be used as settlements.
“Just seeing the Kaduna rape gist today and it is really annoying that certain people want to use N30,000 to pay for rape damages. There’s no amount of money that can be used to pay such inhumane act!
Some other users have warned about the hypocrisy of trending Jennifer’s case today and jumping on another exciting trend tomorrow. There is no doubt that strategic and proactive measures must be taken if Jennifer should get the justice she deserves.
