Ayra Starr has opened up about her recent global tour, revealing some funny, surprising, and eye opening experiences from performing across different countries.
In an interview with Capital XTRA, the Afrobeats star admitted that not every stage is packed with fans who know her songs and she has learned to embrace that.
Talking about Australia, she said the crowd welcomed her with open arms: “Australia was fine. They loved Ayra.”
But in the American Midwest, things were very different. Ayra laughed as she recalled performing for people who didn’t even know her. “We went to America and it was like the Midwest and they’ve never heard of me before in their lives,” she said. She even spotted a girl in the front row casually eating pizza while she was on stage.
Instead of feeling discouraged, Ayra Starr took it as a lesson. “I feel like God is just training me. Now there’s nowhere I can’t perform. I can perform at 90 year old birthday parties. I can perform anywhere. I will be good,” she explained.
She also reflected on how it felt to perform for fans who weren’t familiar with her songs: “It was a different experience, especially me when I’m used to people singing my song and now I’m having people just looking at me like…” she added, pulling a playful confused face that made everyone laugh.
For Ayra, these moments are all part of growth. From stadiums full of fans in Australia to quiet crowds in America, she says she’s ready for any stage and any audience.
