Established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria, the Headies Awards aims to acknowledge exceptional accomplishments in the Nigerian music industry. Each year, the ceremony showcases performances from both established and promising artists.

For the 2023 edition, the eligibility period spans from January 2022 to March 2023, ensuring that only musical content released during this timeframe is considered for nominations.

The awarding body took to its official social media platforms on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, to announce the nominees for the Rookie of the Year category. Among the talented contenders are renowned musicians Odumodublvck, Guchi, Bayanni, Eltee Skhillz, and Khalid.

The Rookie of the Year category spotlights artists who have enjoyed a successful musical year without releasing a full album during the review period.

Odumodublvck, a rising rapper signed to Native Records, enters the competition with notable tracks like “Dog Eat Dog,” “Picanto,” and “Declan Rice.” Mavin Records’ Bayanni brings his self-titled EP from 2022, featuring hit songs such as “Ta Ta Ta” and “Family,” to contend for the award. Guchi, the sensational songstress, hopes to secure the trophy with her viral track “All Over You.” Khaid, representing Neville Records, showcases his talent through songs like “With You,” “Ski,” “Jolie,” and “Carry Me Go.” Lastly, Eltee Skhillz, an energetic singer, presents his tunes “ODG” and “Breakfast” as contenders.

With such an impressive lineup, the Rookie of the Year category promises fierce competition as these exceptional artists vie for the prestigious accolade at the 16th edition of the Headies Awards.
