With a touch of a DJ’s elusiveness and a laid-out organization, is one of the tools this album confidently portrayed. DJ Neptune is GREAT. Indeed.
DJ Neptune is one of the most creative Nigerian DJ so far, in 2018 when he dished out the first volume of “Greatness” which cuts across diverse sounds and serves as his debut album housing a plethora of West African and Eastern creators; in 2021, he brings the culture much closer, innovating trendy sounds with it as well as a range of superstars he took alongside.
Nigerian creators are dominant on the album. With a range of exhilarating performances and efforts from Yemi Alade, Joeboy, Mr. Eazi, Simi, Adekunle Gold, Ladipoe, Laycon, and Waje on the grand opening song titled “Rise Up”, which serves as a speak up on his behalf unraveling part of his experiences and beliefs that he would not give up, believing in his journey nevertheless. The record was apt alongside a smooth rap blend of Ladipoe and Laycon’s joint, chemistry enough.
Rema, Patoranking, Blaq Bonez, Cheque, Lojay, Zlatan, Phyno, Bella Shmurda, Peruzzi, and Omah Lay were also featured on the album. However, the project was also serenaded by two East African creators including Harmonize and the alluring songstress Anjella. They both represented on the same record for the melodic “Woman” which becomes second to the last track off the album depicting a range of the Tanzanian culture. The Tanzanian local dialect was present along the line and on the song, the sounds and culture especially come to portray the lifestyle of the Tanzanian’s with it.
Well, I wonder how and what the visual experience of “Woman” would depict. Perhaps, it would be rendered to showcase us another level of the Tanzanian culture which would involve bringing them closer as well as other African listeners together, who have to get more used to the sounds they have to offer.
Meanwhile, the Ghanaian Stonebowy and Kofi Jamar were also present in the album on different records, as well as the South African Focalistic, who’s become one of the South African creators that have taken part in the successful crossover of the Amapiano sounds in the West African regions.
The project was good enough and Neptune understands how to bring cultures closer, both from the acts, the sounds, and as he innovates completely. Well, his previous effort dished out with an army of creators across Africa was cultural enough as much as the sophomore which he collectively puts together and showcased what a range of cultural experiences can bring.
