Banging!! 7 Netflix Original Series You Must See

July 6, 2019

Netflix is becoming increasingly popular and with cheaper data plans being churned out, we all have no excuse not to enjoy the wonderful content Netflix keeps updating on their platform. I also know how hard it is finding the right Netflix series, so I am here to help. So buckle up and check out some of the Original series and their trailers.

Sex Education

Teen sex comedies typically rely on gross-out humour: sticky substances turning up in inopportune places, badly timed cases of mistaken identity, drunk kids doing things with people they don’t really like. But this British series, starring Asa Butterfield as a 16-year-old transfer student and the indomitable Gillian Anderson as his sex-therapist mom, is different.

It’s certainly not prudish — the opening scene alone is a testament to that. But despite the nudity and explicit sex scenes, “Sex Education” is an earnest, sweet coming-of-age (no pun intended) story, featuring excellent performances from Butterfield and Anderson, as well as the supporting players Ncuti Gatwa and Emma Mackey. Bodyguard

A taut, six-episode thriller (bless the British), “Bodyguard” features the former “Game of Thrones” star Richard Madden as the title character, a veteran named David Budd who is assigned to protect a Conservative member of Parliament, Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes).

Budd is a tough-guy hero who looks good in a leather jacket, but he’s not made of steel, and Madden makes sure the strain of his job shows plainly on his face. When it had its premiere in Britain last year, “Bodyguard” became the BBC’s most-watched drama since 2008, and Madden won a Golden Globe earlier this year for his performance as the tense, trauma-addled Budd(NY Times).

You

Joe Goldberg, a bookstore manager, meets Guinevere Beck, an aspiring writer, and becomes immediately infatuated with her. To feed his obsession, he uses social media and other technology to track her presence and remove obstacles to their romance.

You is an American psychological thriller television series developed by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble, the first season is based on the eponymous 2014 novel by Caroline Kepnes.

Russian Doll

This one is for my ladies. The first thing you should know is that Russian Doll is the funny and emotional the series that Natasha Lyonne (its star, co-creator, writer, and director) has long since deserved, as she’s spent most of her career as a co-star and not a lead.

Next up, as Todd VanDerWeff pointed out, Russian Dolls goes beyond having a strong, brash female lead, and places men in supporting roles — that aren’t quite fleshed out, but help drive the story — typically made for women.

Stranger Things (Season 3)

Finally, It’s here and it brings a mix of sunny pool days, growing pains and — of course — creepy supernatural occurrences. We can say that Netflix’s popular nostalgic fantasy series has already been renewed for a third season.

So break out the stove-top popcorn and sit down for the addictive tales of Dustin, Mike, Lucas and Will, the four youths who keep finding themselves in the centre of supernatural predicaments.

Marvel at the wondrous abilities of Eleven, laugh at the dry wit of police chief Jim Hopper and find the joy in Winona Ryder’s over-the-top performance.

Dark

Dark is a German science fiction thriller which bears much resemblance to Stranger Things. Set in the fictional German town of Winden.

Dark concerns the aftermath of a child’s disappearance which exposes the secrets of, and hidden connections between, four estranged families as they slowly unravel a sinister time travel conspiracy which spans across three generations. Throughout the series, Dark explores the existential implications of time and its effects on human nature.

When They See Us

This one particularly made me shed some tears. Ava DuVernay’s harrowing, vital re-telling of the Central Park Five case, which saw five black and Hispanic teens wrongfully convicted of a rape that took place in New York City in 1989.

Across four episodes, it goes from police procedural and a courtroom drama before launching into a heartbreaking finale which delves into the consequences the conviction had upon one particularly unfortunate member of the gang.
