Cristiano Ronaldo Hints at Retirement as He Opens Up on Future Plans

Cristiano Ronaldo has given one of his clearest hints yet that his legendary football career could soon be coming to an end.

The 41-year-old Portuguese star opened up about his future during a recent interview with Vogue, revealing that the current season with Al Nassr could be his final one as a professional footballer.

Speaking about the possibility of retirement, Ronaldo said:

“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy.”

While Ronaldo has not officially announced his retirement, the statement suggests he is already preparing for the next chapter of his life after spending around 25 years playing professional football.

Ronaldo revealed that he has already made plans for life away from football and understands the importance of staying active once his playing career ends.

“I have a lot of things that will keep me busy, to the point that it’s difficult to tell you just one thing. I have just planned it all. When football is gone, it can leave a big void, and you have to fill your time with different things planned… not just one thing. I am ready to enjoy myself more, travel more, watch and play padel, which I love very much. So I want to continue enjoying what I have earned… and what we have earned together. Because it was 25 years filled with a lot of daily sacrifices”.

His plans include travelling more, playing and watching padel, and spending more time enjoying life with his family.

Despite retirement now appearing closer, Ronaldo still has another major milestone within reach. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner currently has 976 career goals, putting him just 24 goals away from reaching the remarkable 1,000-goal mark.

Ronaldo has already built one of football’s most decorated careers, winning league titles across Europe, five UEFA Champions League trophies and major honours with Portugal.

Whether this proves to be his final season or not, Ronaldo’s latest comments suggest that the end of his extraordinary playing career is getting closer.
